JIM SHULL                      Mr. McClain, 80, of Philadelphia, died Monday, February 13, 2017, at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian. Charlie was a native and longtime resident of Philadelphia, MS. A 1959 graduate of Mississippi State University, he was an active supporter of MSU football and baseball, and was a Bulldog Club member for many years. He had served in the Mississippi Army National Guard during late 50’s and early 60’s. He was a retired funeral director and former co-owner of McClain-Hays Funeral Service. He was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia where he served as an elder. He formerly served his hometown as alderman of Ward 1 and two terms as mayor of the City of Philadelphia. Charlie was a former member and past president of the Mississippi Funeral Directors Association, Philadelphia-Neshoba County Chamber of Commerce, and Philadelphia Rotary Club. He had served on the board of directors for the Bank of Philadelphia/National Bank of Commerce. He was a mason, past president of Neshoba County Shrine Club, and member and past director of the Royal Order of Jesters of Meridian. His hobbies through the years included flying his own airplane, bass fishing, and traveling and tailgating to MSU football/baseball games.  After retirement, raising longhorn cattle and membership in the Neshoba County Cattlemen’s Association became a favorite pastime. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Rebecca B. McClain, son, Chuck McClain (Kim); grandson, Chas McClain, all of Philadelphia; granddaughter, Chelsea Senitko (Michal) of Flowood; great-granddaughter, Zora Senitko; sisters, Ann Hossley (Danny) of Hideaway, Texas and Jackie Franklin (Larry) of Jackson, MS; two nieces and three nephews and their families. Pallbearers are Stanley Salter, Don Kilgore, Jeff Seward, Scott Lewis, Rich Miller, Dan Cumberland, Jim Prince and Kip Herrington. The family requests memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia, Palmer Home for Children at P. O. Box 746, Columbus, MS, 39703, or your favorite charity.
