BUDDY COVINGTON J B “Jack” Boyd, 82, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2011 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. Jack Boyd was born on June 20, 1928 in Bay Springs, Mississippi to the late L.M. and Bertha (Harper) Boyd. Jack served, alongside his brother J C, in the U.S. Army in Korea as a member of the 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. In 1953 he married the love of his life Hilda Bounds of Philadelphia, Mississippi. He had a lengthy career as a watch and jewelry repairman in Ridgeland, MS. He lived in Ridgeland, MS for over 45 years and then retired to Philadelphia, MS in 1999 where he was an active member of Bloomfield Methodist Church. He was a long time member of the American Legion. He took great pleasure in being a member of the “Road Runners” group where he and his wife Hilda traveled all over the country with friends. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Hilda, his parents L.M. and Bertha Boyd, his step-father Adner Thigpen, his brother R J and his sister Frances. He is survived by his daughter Virginia Boyd Hodges (Randy) of Ridgeland, step-son Ronnie Watkins of Philadelphia; grandchildren: Boyd McGraw (Coby) of Jackson, Colin Kirby and Claire Kirby of Ridgeland, Carmen Hodges Ward of Canton, Hannah and Sarah Katherine Watkins and John Chandler Vines of Philadelphia; great-grandchildren: Cole McDonald and Carter and Molly Chayse McGraw of Jackson, Jayda Ward of Canton; brothers and sisters: J C Boyd (Louise) of Collins, Helen Lee (Rex) of Bay Springs, Charles Thigpen of Bay Springs, and Robert Thigpen (Vicky) of Brandon and many nieces and nephews.
