He was born and reared in Neshoba County and made his home on the Gulf Coast in Moss Point for 43 years.  He returned to Neshoba County in 2007 to become the Camp Dixon caretaker and director.  Rev. Matthews was a member of Pine Grove Church of God in Edinburg.  He served in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife, Katherine Matthews of Union; daughter, Stephanie Matthews Mizelle (Winston) of Houston, TX; sons, Gregory O. Matthews, Sr. (Stephany) of Richton and Dwight D. Matthews (Jean) of Lakeland, FL; six grandchildren; sister, Joy Henry of Dexter, GA; and brother, Billy Matthews (Gloria) of Moss Point.Pallbearers were Gregory Matthews, Jr., Darion Matthews, Derrick Matthews, Landon Bounds, Kaleb Matthews, Steven Creel and Jeff Matthews.
