STUART PURVIS Jean Holder Martin, 83, went to be with her Lord and Savior, on Thursday, October 3, 2013.  She was a patient of Sta-Home Hospice at Neshoba County General Hospital.  She was born September 13, 1930, in Drew, MS, the youngest of 11 children.  In her younger years she lived in Drew and Charleston, MS, and graduated from high school in Monticello, AR.  Her parents were Lon and Fannie Holder of Greenwood, MS.She attended nursing school and worked as a bookkeeper for Billups Petroleum in Greenwood, MS.  There she met the love of her life, Hugh A. Martin.  They were married on August 5, 1950, in Greenwood. In 2013, they celebrated their 63rd anniversary.  Hugh served two tours in the Navy before returning to Greenwood where he surrendered to preach the gospel.  Jean was a loving and devoted preacher’s wife for 59 years.  She was very active in many aspects of the churches where her husband pastored.  For 12 years, she was very honored to teach the Portia Deweese Young Married Ladies’ Sunday School Class at Spring Creek Baptist Church in Philadelphia.She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She cherished the time that she spent with her family.  She is survived by her husband, Bro. Hugh A. Martin of Philadelphia, MS; her son, Steve W. Martin and his wife, Susan of Oxford, MS; three granddaughters, Stephanie Martin of Fremont, CA, Bethanie Martin Omiecinski, her husband, Jeff and infant son, Henry of Chicago, IL, LaJeana Martin Maxwell, her husband, Benjamin and their children, Grace, Blake and Ashten of Titusville, FL, and her loving sister, Jimmie Holder Powers of Texarkana, AR.She was preceded in death by her son, David L. Martin; her parents; four brothers and five sisters.Special gratitude to the many members of Laurel Hill, Bond and Spring Creek Baptist Churches for their love and support in this time of bereavement.  Also, the family would like to thank two wonderful physicians, Dr. Jon Michael Beall of Jackson, MS, and Dr. Hilton Fairchild of Philadelphia, MS, for the excellent medical care they provided.  And, to the nursing and ancillary staffs of  Neshoba County General Hospital, Baptist Hospital of Jackson and Sta-Home Hospice of Philadelphia-thank you for allowing Jean to enter the gates of Heaven in comfort and with dignity.Pallbearers were Larry Fulton, Lynn Yates, Mike Lee, Nolan Watkins, James Johnson and J. V. Goforth.
