DENNIS DUVALL James “Jimmy” Otto Thompson, 71, of Philadelphia, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. He was born to the late Bertha and Robert Thompson in Neshoba County. Mr. Thompson retired from BellSouth after 38 years of service. Since 1967 he had resided in the Hope community. Mr. Thompson was raised on a cotton farm in Neshoba County and had a life-long love of the outdoors. He spent his youth riding horses on the farm and his adult years raising cattle, chickens and as a hobbyist horseman. He was an avid gardener and handyman. His love for building was expressed in the near constant renovations of his home at the behest of his wife of almost 52 years. He expressed his service to God in aiding in the building expansion of Hope Baptist Church and spending his younger years as the youth Sunday School teacher. In addition, he served several years as a deacon and Adult Sunday School teacher. Mr. Thompson was a home chef and delighted in assisting his wife in cooking meals for his church family, tinkering with his daughters’ cooking, and baking cakes & bread for his neighbors and friends. Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Pat; his daughters, Pam Pickle (Eddie) of Jackson, MS; Christy Gulsby (Jeff) of McDonough, GA; and Alice Wurst (Joe) of Littleton, CO; seven grandchildren – Alex (Abigail), Caden, Bailey, Caleigh, Catey, Max and Zoe; sisters, Edwina Pope of Carthage, MS, Sally Darling of Bentonia, MS and Brenda Hindman of Houston, TX; brothers, Kenneth Thompson of Philadelphia, MS and Gary Thompson of Memphis, TN; and a host of nieces, nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his sister, Bobbie Blocker and brother, Curtis Thompson. Pallbearers were Mike Skinner, Tim Blocker, Pruett Willis, Troy King, Wade Bobo, Bobby Winstead, Jerry Russell and Bill Holloway.
