Alex Gilbert

Services for Alex Gilbert will be held Thursday, February 28, 2019, at 2 p.m. from McClain-Hays Chapel  with Bro. Brent Parks and Bro. Dennis Robinson officiating.  Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Newton County.  Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 27, 2019, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Home.  McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  Mr. Gilbert, 16, of Newton County, died Friday, February 15, 2019. Alex was a 10th grade student at Newton County High School.  He attended Nanih Waiya schools in elementary and junior high school.  He was a member of FFA.  He loved hunting, fishing, and old trucks. Survivors include his mother, Dawn Sims Smith; brothers, Jonathan, Connor, and Pierce Allen Gilbert,  Mason and Eli Smith; sister, Karley Smith; father, John Gilbert; special friend, Moesha Munn; paternal grandmother, Linda Gilbert; maternal grandfather, Glen Sims; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and bunches of friends. He was preceded in death by grandmother, Kathy Sims; and grandfather, Keith Gilbert. Pallbearers are Jonathan Gilbert, Kyle Nowell, Karl Cleveland, Jr., Cody Warren, Josh Rouse and Riley Arinder.  Honorary pallbearer is Connor Gilbert.
