Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 5, 2025 from Trinity Baptist Church in Philadelphia, MS. Bro. Justin Craft will officiate Visitation will be from 10:00 am until service time at the church.
Alan Ray Smith, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness. Born in Ferndale, MI, Alan moved to Loudon, TN, in 1974, where he dedicated his career to Kimberly-Clark Paper Products as a Mill Buyer until his retirement. In July 2024, he made the move to Philadelphia, MS where he continued to embrace life and community.
Alan had a deep passion for gardening and landscaping, enjoying nearly every opportunity to be outdoors. His love for music was vast, and he had a remarkable ability to fix nearly anything, earning him the affectionate title of "Master Fixer" from his grandchildren. More than anything, Alan cherished the time spent with his wife whom he referred to as his "beloved". He also enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, family and friends.
Alan was actively involved in his faith communities throughout his life, most recently at Trinity Baptist Church in Philadelphia, MS. He brought humor, joy and support to those around him and was known for his caring spirit.
Alan is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Cathy; his son, Jeremy Michael (Katrina) Smith of Sweetwater, TN; daughters, Amy Elisabeth Smith of Newton, MA, and Amanda Jane (Richard) Howard of Groton, MA; grandchildren, Logan and Lynsey Smith, Knox Gonzalez-Smith, Bleiler, Mac, and Zechariah Howard; sisters, Donna (Steve) Benkovsky of Eaton Rapids, MI, and Linda Pendergrass of Philadelphia, MS; brother, James R. (Phyllis) Smith of Berkley, MI; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, James and Janell Smith. He will be deeply missed and remembered for his unwavering love, generosity, and the warmth he brought to everyone fortunate enough to know him.
