Frances Elizabeth (Betty) Mabry

Betty was born on April 12, 1937, in Neshoba County, Mississippi. After earning her Bachelor of Science, and her master’s degree in nursing at The University of Mississippi, she became a psychiatric nurse supervisor at the State of Mississippi mental hospital at Whitfield. There she helped open their first alcohol and drug treatment center. Mid-career, Betty continued her passion for psychiatric nursing at the University of Mississippi and the Veterans Administration hospital in Jackson.

Betty served as President of the Mississippi Nurses Association and President of Beta Sigma Phi, the national nursing honorary. After 50 years of dedicated and distinguished service, she retired from the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents Lera and William Tindol, her beloved daughter Elizabeth Dawn, her husband Louis Mabry, her close friend James, and her beloved brothers and sisters.

Betty is survived by her loving daughter and son in law, The Rev. Louanne Mabry-Loch+, a priest of The Episcopal Church, who held her hand and administered last rites before she passed, and her husband Dr. Eric Loch of Jacksonville Beach, FL. She is also survived by beloved niece and nephew Samuel and Joyce Alexander; niece Diana Tindol-McDiffett and her daughter Dama; niece and nephews Donna, Julius, and Austin; sister-in-law Hazel Tindol; cousin Mary Jo Antee and other nieces and, nephews, and many loved ones who will miss her dearly.

Her first name, Frances, was appropriate because she followed the example of St. Francis to care for the sick and for injured animals. Betty Mabry loved God, and used her gift of voice to sing in the choir. She will be missed by her church family, especially Sandra and the choir, and her friends in her Sunday school and disciple class at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.

Betty also loved to dance! She especially enjoyed Latin dance and ballroom dancing, where with her friends and instructors Jim and Tatianna, she won many awards and competitions at the highest level.

Memorials to the glory of God in her memory can be made to St. Marks United Methodist Church in Brandon, Mississippi, 400 Grants Ferry Rd. Brandon MS 39047. We especially thank the staff at Starling of Ponte Vedra Independent living and memory care for their love.

Interment will be at 9:30 on Wednesday February 11 at the Tindol/Snow/Stokes family cemetery and a memorial service will follow at 2:00 at St. Mark’s United Methodist in Brandon, Mississippi.
