Funeral services for Harvey C. Townsend will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, April 10, 2026, at McClain-Hays Chapel, with Bro. David Dewease and Bro. Warren Hedgepath officiating. Interment will follow in Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon until service time.
Harvey Townsend, age 87, passed away on April 7, 2026. Born on February 22, 1939, in Lauderdale County, Mississippi, to Verna Mae and Roy Townsend, he was the fourth of nine children. Harvey spent part of his early years in Georgia after moving there in 1951, but returned to Mississippi as soon as he could because it was always home.
On November 8, 1958, he married the love of his life, Nancy Townsend, and together they shared 66 years of marriage. They raised three sons — Scott (Lynn), Mike (Sheriee), and Ricky — and built a life grounded in family, hard work, and commitment. In 1979, they settled in Neshoba County, where they have remained ever since.
Harvey was known for his strong work ethic and his exceptional skill as a mechanic. If he wasn’t out in his shop working on a vehicle, he could often be found in his recliner, watching westerns a little too loud and sharing Hershey’s Kisses with his grandchildren. He enjoyed trips to the Smoky Mountains, a good meal, and, in recent years, scrolling on his iPad and thrift shopping.
Above all, Harvey loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather to 12 grandchildren, great-grandfather to 24 great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandfather to 10 great-great-grandchildren, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and a life well lived.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Nancy Townsend; three sons, Scott (Lynn) Townsend, Mike (Sheriee) Townsend, and Ricky Townsend; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and brothers, Robert (Karen) Townsend and Wayne Townsend.
Preceded in death by his parents, Roy Townsend and Verna Mae Shock; brothers, Alvin Townsend and William Edward Townsend; sisters, Pauline Reid, Macie Jeanette Marshall, Patricia Faye Coker, and Wilma Jean Popwell; grandsons, Nic Townsend and Joey Rhodes; and a special friend, Larry Walker.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Townsend, Kyle Townsend, Tyler Townsend, Terrell Winstead, Chael Skinner, Richard Townsend, Phillip Townsend, Fred Dwight, and Matt Townsend.
