Funeral Services for Mr. Hugh David McDonald will be held on Monday, July 28 th , 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Carolina Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jamey Germany and Rev. Perry McCall officiating. Interment will follow at the Carolina Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 27th, 2025, from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Home.
David was born in Union, MS to William Kenneth and Audrey Mae McDonald. He was a resident of the Dowdville and Dixon communities his entire life. He attended Madden School and graduated in May 1969, the last graduating class before the school reopened as Leake Academy. In November 1969 David married the love of his life, Debbie Holmes, and were happily united for 56 years, separated only by death. Their son and only child John was born in October 1977. In 1978, David and his brother Kenneth Ray together formed McDonald Pest Control. The business became a flourishing and well regarded company and remains in operation to this day serving Central and East Central Mississippi. David was an avid coon hunter and UKC world champion, horseman, able mechanic, and successful businessman always known for his integrity and kindness. David was a long-time member of Carolina Presbyterian Church, a congregation his McDonald forefathers helped to establish in 1841. He will be buried with these forefathers in the old Carolina Cemetery, very close to where the original church once stood.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 56 years Debbie McDonald; son, John McDonald (Amy) of Carthage, MS; brother, Kenneth Ray McDonald (Diane) of SoSo, MS; grandchildren, Waverly McDonald, Carsyn McDonald, Rowan McDonald; numerous nieces, nephews, and their families and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Kenneth and Audrey Mae McDonald; and granddaughter, Jaelyn McDonald.
Pallbearers will be Brian McDonald, Kyle McDonald, Josh Holmes, Justin Lenard, Tracy Coker, and Clay Sanders.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Carolina Presbyterian Church or the Carolina Cemetery fund.
