Joe Burkes, Jr.

Services for Joe Burkes, Jr. will be held Thursday, March 19, 2020 at 11 am from McClain-Hays Chapel with the Rev. Mack Alford and Rev. Allen Herrington officiating. Burial will follow in Jones Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 18, 2020 from 5 pm until 8 pm at McClain-Hays Funeral Home. McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Burkes, 77, of Philadelphia died Tuesday, March 17, 2020. He was a native and longtime resident of Philadelphia and Neshoba County. He graduated for Philadelphia High School and then went to ECJC for 2 years, Millsaps College and graduated MSU with a Bachelors Degree in Business. He formerly worked at U.S. Motors and entered the Finance Business at Gulf Finance in 1968 and was Co-owner of Burkes Finance with his son since 1992. He was an avid fisherman and Baptist by faith. Survivors include his son, Trey Burkes (Pamela); grandchildren, Megan Hemphill, Jeffery Hemphill (Stewart) and Jacob Hemphill (Anna); great-grandchildren, Jace and Jules Hemphill. Mr. Burkes was preceded in death by his wife, Dollye Burkes in 2014.
