Marshall Kenneth Posey, 89, of Philadelphia, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday evening, July 23, 2026.
Kenneth lived a full life passionately devoted to his family and to serving others. His greatest joy in life was his family, and he was faithfully devoted to his wife, Pat – whom he affectionately called his “Honey Bunch” - for 66 years. She was his heart, and he doted on her with gifts, always ensuring she was taken care of well. They enjoyed travelling together and, in later years, shared nights by each other’s side watching a good movie. He was a loving, selfless father to his children and was tireless in doing whatever was needed to take care of and provide for them. He modeled for them the values of honesty, generosity, and hard work and was never shy about sharing his opinion and wisdom with them. Later, his grandchildren became his delight, and he would watch over them with a smile and a special sense of pride and love. He was a loyal brother to Lewis, and they shared regular phone calls to stay in touch with each other. He was also a devoted son to his parents, taking tender care of each of them until their passing.
A man of many passions, he embarked on countless motorcycle rides across the country with his friends, collected antique cars, loved animals, and enjoyed woodworking, history, and old war and western movies. Kenneth was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Philadelphia and played trumpet in the orchestra there for a time. He was a gifted musician, playing the trumpet in the high school band and the upright bass in a bluegrass band. Just last month, he took out his trumpet to play once more. An adventurer at heart, Kenneth loved flying airplanes and experimental aircraft, as well as travelling the country in the family’s RVs and campers. However, his happiest hours in life were the quiet ones sitting on his back porch with a cigar, a cup of coffee, and his pets, sharing his wisdom, humor, and precious moments with family and friends.
Born July 31, 1936, in Philadelphia, Mississippi, to Cecil and Sadie Posey, he was a graduate of Philadelphia High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1955-1958 as a Russian linguist stationed in Japan, and following his service, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Master’s degree of Business Administration from the University of Alabama. Kenneth distinguished himself with a career in healthcare that spanned more than 50 years. He spent the greater part of his career, 36 years, serving as CEO of Jasper General Hospital in Bay Springs, MS, where the establishment of an esteemed retirement facility was among his greatest accomplishments. He retired from Jasper General at the age of 79, having also previously served as CEO of Riley Hospital in Meridian, MS. Throughout his career, he was a dedicated member of the Mississippi Hospital Association, once serving as President, and was a tireless advocate for patients and communities across Mississippi. Even in retirement he continued serving faithfully in healthcare at Neshoba General Hospital as a member of the Board of Trustees, twice serving as Chairman of the Board. His leadership‚ marked by integrity, wisdom, and a servant's heart, helped strengthen rural healthcare in Mississippi for generations to come.
Kenneth leaves behind his beloved wife of 66 years, Pat Posey of Philadelphia; his son, Ty Posey and wife, Micki, and their children, Audrey and Sydney; his daughter, Jil Montgomery and her children, Skyler and Halle; his daughter, Capri Brooks and husband, Jason, and their children, Posey and Hall; and his brother, Lewis Posey and wife, Mary.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Sadie Posey; his daughter, Cynthia Posey; and his son-in-law, Donnie Montgomery.
Pallbearers will be Art Sharpe, Caleb Page, Terry Winstead, Ronnie Page, Steve Posey and Jeff Shepherd.
Honorary Pallbearers are Ben Brummett, Jerry Martin, Dr. Bob Dillworth, Carroll Price, Danny Herrington, Billy Spears, Jeff Winstead and Tommy Duncan.
