Peggy Townsend Duckworth, age 80, of Pearl, MS, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on Monday, March 30, 2026.
She was born on May 2, 1945, and grew up in Philadelphia, MS, where she graduated from Neshoba Central High School. She then went on to marry Bud Duckworth, with whom she had two children, Tamra and Al Duckworth. She held a career in the field of accounting, along with several other occupations.
Peggy was loved by many and left behind a legacy of unwavering principle. She was defined by her strong family roots and her profound will. Above all, Peggy was trustworthy and dependable, the person you could always count on to do exactly what she said she would. She was famously strong-willed, known for having firm opinions and never being afraid to fight for what she believed in. While she could be stern when the situation called for it, she possessed a disarming quality that made her remarkably easy to talk to. Peggy enjoyed a good conversation and had a rare gift for listening. She loved to laugh and share her sense of humor with others.
The true highlight of Peggy’s life was her family, and nothing brought her more profound joy than her granddaughters, Alayna and Arabella. She poured her heart into her role as their grandmother, and her bond with them was truly special in her later years. She was the best cook her family ever knew and found great joy in the simple traditions of home. She took pride in feeding her family, and could take a seemingly empty pantry and turn it into a five course meal. Whether she was canning, working on a crochet project, or spending hours talking on the phone with her friends and family, her hands and heart were always busy caring for those she loved. In her quieter moments, she enjoyed the comfort of watching her favorite TV shows and movies, along with spoiling her cats.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Tamra Duckworth; Al Duckworth and his wife, Windy; her brother, Jerry Townsend; sister-in-law, Ruby Townsend; and her granddaughters, Alayna and Arabella Duckworth. She also leaves behind her beloved pets, Serena and Tiger Lily, who were a treasured part of her home.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Bud Duckworth; parents, William "Mutt" and Nadine Townsend; and brothers, Truman and Billy Townsend.
