Rev. John Samuel Jenkins

Funeral services for Reverend John Samuel Jenkins will be held Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at McClain-Hays Chapel with Reverend Carlos Dawson II officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 12 noon, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. and interment at Eastlawn Cemetery in Philadelphia. Rev. Jenkins, 84, died peacefully, at home, Thursday, February 3, 2022, following a long illness. He was born in Benton, Mississippi, and grew up in a large farming family in Yazoo County. At the age of 21, he was born again. (John 3:7) He entered study for the ministry in June 1960 and was ordained as a Methodist Protestant minister June 27, 1964. With the help and support of his wife, Reverend Maxine J. Jenkins, he pastored several church congregations in Mississippi and Louisiana. Through his many years of ministry, he enjoyed a large and loving church family in addition to his numerous friends and relatives. He entertained everyone who knew him with his quick wit and good humor. He enjoyed singing, traveling (including two church mission trips to Belize) and gardening. He was a hard worker, a kind soul, a family man to his core and, above all, a man of God. Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Rev. Maxine Janette Bane Jenkins; son John Calvin Jenkins, daughter Margaret Lynne Jenkins Finnerty (John), son Stephen Dwayne Jenkins; sister Pauline Jones, brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Gladys Jenkins, brother and sister-in-law Randall and Dianna Jenkins, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dwight and Jean Bane, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tommy and Barbara Bane and many nieces, nephews and their families. Rev. Jenkins was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Sally Corine Jones Jenkins; sister Loraine Burrell (Allen), brother William Jenkins (Annie), brother James Jenkins (Helen), sister Gladys Perry (Walter), sister Alma Jean Hearn (Henry), brother Edward Lamar Jenkins (Mattie), father-in-law and mother-in-law Calvin and Oma Bane, sister-in-law Catherine Bane Kelley (Myron), and brother-in-law, Fleet Jones. Pallbearers, John Calvin Jenkins, Dwight Bane, John Finnerty, Marty Jenkins, Tony Johnson and Terry Roberts. Memorials may be made to Spring Hill Chapel, 15681 Road 505, Philadelphia, MS 39350 or your favorite charitable organization.
