Reverend Edwin Gerald "Jerry" McGee

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 11:00 am from the chapel of McClain-Hays Funeral Home, with the burial to follow in the Dixon Cemetery. Bro. B. T. Strum, Bro. Lawrence Pool, and A. D. Tucker will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 am on Tuesday until service time at McClain-Hays.

Reverend Edwin Gerald “Jerry” McGee, beloved husband, father, foster father, grandfather, great-grandfather, pastor, teacher, brother and faithful servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully at his home in Dixon, Mississippi, on August 28, 2026, at the age of 87.

Jerry was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Union, Mississippi. His love for the Lord and his calling to ministry began at a young age. As a teenager in Moultrie, Georgia, he began serving by helping with the RAs and was soon invited to speak in churches throughout Colquitt County, Georgia. What began as the faith of a young man grew into a lifetime devoted to sharing the Gospel and serving others.

Jerry graduated from Moultrie High School and continued his education at Norman Park College in Georgia and Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee. He later earned a Master of Divinity from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri.

Throughout his life, Jerry pastored churches across the South and Midwest and taught school in both regions. His ministry also reached beyond the United States through church mission trips to Haiti and Jamaica. Whether he was standing behind a pulpit, teaching in a classroom, serving on the mission field, or simply talking with someone one-on-one, Jerry had a heartfelt desire for people to know and love Jesus. His faith was not simply something he preached. It was the foundation upon which he built his life.

Jerry married Patsy Ann Watkins of Neshoba County, and together they shared 60 years of marriage. After retiring, Jerry and Patsy moved to Neshoba County in 2008.

In retirement, Jerry found great joy in the simple things. He loved working in his garden and was always happy to share its abundance with neighbors, friends, and family. He also enjoyed studying and reading from his Greek New Testament, continuing his lifelong love of Scripture and learning.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Watson McGee and Edna Truitt McGee; his sister, Barbara Kamrath, and brother-in-law, Darrell Kamrath; his sister, Patricia Bishop, and brother-in-law, Richard Bishop; his brother, Tom McGee Jr., and sister-in-law, Lassie McGee; and his brother, Larry McGee.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Patsy Ann Watkins McGee; his daughter, Kira Ann McGee of Philadelphia, MS; his sons, Thomas Gerald McGee of Florida, and Kenneth Driggers of Jackson, Tennessee; his granddaughter, Haley Bozeman; his grandson, Kayle Cook, both of Macon, Georgia; his great-granddaughter, Daisy Loretta; his brother, Tony McGee; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Those who have the honor of serving as pallbearers and carrying Reverend McGee to his final resting place are his grandson Kayle Cook and his nephews Scott McGee, Kody Anthony, Anthony Sharp, Garrett Anthony, and Joseph Vargas.

Reverend Edwin Gerald “Jerry” McGee will be deeply missed by his family, friends, former students, church families, and the many people whose lives he touched throughout his years of ministry and teaching. His was a life of service and devotion to his family, to others, and most importantly, to the Lord.

Through every church he pastored, every classroom in which he taught, every mission trip he took, and every person he encountered along the way, Jerry's greatest hope remained the same : that others would come to know and love Jesus.

His earthly ministry has ended, but the seeds of faith he planted throughout his lifetime will continue to grow for generations to come.
